ROAD WORK FOR 2008
During the construction season of 2008, CSL will be concentrating on five areas of improvements. Due to the significant financial difficulties we will be facing this year, the paving of entire streets will almost certainly not be possible. However, we are committed to making substantial incremental progress this year on as many streets as possible.
At this time, our equipment is undergoing a substantial maintenance and repair period. In mid-April, when our equipment is ready for the hard work season of 2007, we will begin the jobs noted below:
1. Short street section base repair will be completed on those streets where a short piece of the street had to be ground down to gravel in 2007. These are areas where the sub-base material (clay) has broken through to the surface and has to be dug out and replaced. In many cases, this will involve closing the section of street during the daytime while the entire surface is removed and refilled with crushed limestone to stabilize and re-seal the sub-base material, as well establishing a permanent base for the pavement. Paving will be done along with the Pavement Cutout Repair.
2. Pavement patching: As soon as the streets and base material are dry, we will begin patching those potholes that were not done in 2007, along with finishing up those areas where the pothole patch did not stay put from late fall of 2007. This will take about two to three weeks depending on the weather.
3. Pavement Cutout Repair: After the pothole patching is completed, we will move on to the job of completing the sealing of the pavement cutouts where O’Mara Paving repaired the base material in 2007. In many of these cases, we will need to replace the top two inches of gravel with crushed limestone to seal the base material before using our small paving machine to resurface the cut out sections. As we go around these areas, we will also be drag patching over areas where potholes were so close together that they make it unlikely that the patching will hold by itself.
4. Long street section base repair will be completed in the hot, dry summer weather for those streets that have very long sections that were ground up in 2007. For those short strips that are really bad now, we will try to do enough to stabilize the really bad portions this spring, but need to do the full job under ideal conditions when we can be sure that the job is done right. Funds permitting, we will try to get a base course of asphalt on as many of these streets as possible this year. Funding is very tight and it may not be possible.
5. Ditching improvements will continue as time permits but will be fill in jobs until the above projects are completed. Later in the summer and in the fall, we expect to get the ditching on a substantial number of streets done. As always, please help us to help you. These jobs are very dirty and we have to work in the streets where we cause some delays to your normal driving habits. We will try to keep you posted.
Please be patient and give us the opportunity to get the job done properly for you. We will do everything we can to assure that it is done right the first time
